The McLaren Technology Centre
Woking, Surrey 2003
The McLaren Technology Centre is the corporate and production headquarters
of the McLaren Group. Located in Woking, Surrey on a 62 hectare
site, this state of the art building brings all of the group’s
activities under one roof including production of the Mercedes-Benz
SLR McLaren. Saper Glass are proud to be associated with this project
and successfully undertook design and construction of a number of
complex elements including amongst others:
Rotundas - Circular glazed structures encasing stairwells and lift
shafts. Scenic lift shafts - Structurally bonded lift enclosure
constructed from two tiers of glass arranged to create a glass tube
with minimal visible metalwork. Vehicle lifts – curtain wall
screens glazed in clear glass, matching the Rotundas. Structural
glass feature flooring within restaurant. Visitor and Learning Centre
(V&LC) entrance pod and Gate House – Glazed structures
matching the Rotundas. Link Bridges within the V&LC with structural
glass balustrading. Various internal glass doors and screens. The
project won the Royal Fine Art Commission Building of the Year Award
2005 and a RIBA Architecture Award, and was short listed for the
prestigious RIBA Stirling prize.
